Starting Over.

Originally the Old Town Rag was created to be a Park City-centric blog. Over time, it slowly morphed into more of my personal soap box, and since I redesigned alexdeckard.com complete with my own blog, the OTR has definitely been neglected. So we’re going to go back to square one and starting over with a fresh new look and content. If you live in the Park City or Salt Lake area, are hip to the local scene, and would like to be a contributor, send me a line at adeckard@gmail.com. Programming skills and WordPress familiarity are a definite plus.

Leaving On a Jet-Plane

packed

Armed with only my camera, sketchbook, a few good books and a pair of sandals, this afternoon the old lady and I will be taking to the friendly skis en route to the tropical paradise of Costa Rica. The current plan is to to land in San Jose and make our way down the Caribbean Coast setting up camp in Cahuita and Puerto Viejo and then traveling south into Panama to check out Bocas del Toro. From there will head back up across the country into Costa Rica and hit up Dominical and the see the Pacific sides of thing. Way pumped to get some much needed time away from the old routine.

So until next time, I leave you with this.

Make More. Blog Less.

regimen

Hello, my name is Alex, and I’m a webaholic. It’s true, and sooner or later I must face the facts that I am addicted to the internet. The wake up call came the other morning, quite literally as I awoke and the first thing through my head was logging on. I even remember considering skipping my shower and morning tea for a few extra precious minutes online before trodding (is that a word?) off to the day job. Yes, it is that bad.

Don’t get me wrong, the internet is a wonderful tool when used in moderation. Applications like Google Reader, Image Spark, Twitter, etc… are useful for networking and finding inspiration. However more and more it seems as though it’s becoming a substitute for putting on the old thinking cap. So I put together a little regimen of 5 rules that I must follow daily.. I have a feeling I am not the only one out there with such problems, so lets all band together and try to unplug byte by byte.

1. Draw / sketch for at least 30 minutes per day.
2. Read (non-digital publications) for at least 30 minutes per day.
3. Take at least 1 photograph per day.
4. Limit mindless internet / porn consumption to 30 minutes 1 hour.
5. Make more, blog less.

So feel free to borrow from or add to my list. For those of you who have overcame such addiction, chime in and tell us how you did it.

We now return to our regulary scheduled programming.

You may have noticed that we’ve taken a bit of a hiatus around here during the month of January. The combination of powder days and house guests left little time for keeping up with the Joneses. So apologies are extended to all three of you readers out there. However, as always, we return bigger and better than ever now with an online shop where you can pick up your official Church of Powder Day Saints T (see banner below.) More official Old Town Rag merch will be coming soon, so start saving those pennies.
