Nineties rocker, and legendary Pavement front man Stephen Malkmus will be performing with his latest collection of musicians, deemed the Jicks, tonight [Saturday] at the Urban Lounge in Salt Lake. Doors are at 9:00 however as with all Urban Lounge shows, don’t expect the music to start until well into the night.
Below is a clip found originally on You Ain’t No Picasso featuring Stephen Malkmus and the boys of Blitzen Trapper with their rendition of Funk 49. Thanks to JamBase for tippin’ us off. If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and check out Blitzen Trapper and their latest release Furr.

History Made, Crooked Fingers, & It Dumps.
In post-election day spirit, here’s a clever editorial from Patrick Moberg.
Politics aside, the election of Barack Obama is proof that there is still hope. Only in the great US of A, could his story be possible, and the fact that it was only a short time ago that segregation still was tolerated makes it even more amazing. However, only half the battle is over, lets hope He can cash in on his message of change and make this America cool again.

Showing this weekend at the Park City Film Series is Woody Allen’s steamy, Vicky Christina Barcelona. In my opinion, you can’t hardly go wrong with anything that has both Scarlett Johansen and Penelope Cruz together. Show times are at 7:00 on Saturday and 6:00 on Sunday.

Hillstomp @ Burt’s Tiki Lounge
For one night only Burt’s Tiki Lounge (recently rated one of the top 20 dive bars in the country) will be transformed into a bona fide Mississippi juke-joint. Portland duo Hillstomp will be performing their “Bucket ‘N’ Slide Brand Rock ‘N’ Roll” tomorrow night at in Salt Lake. While band member’s John Johnson (buckets) and Henry Christian (guitars) might hail from the great Northwest, the two are rooted in the sounds of the North Mississippi Delta, taking over where such legends as Muddy Waters, Son House, and R.L. Burnside left off.
Burt’s Tiki Lounge is located @ 726 State Street. Doors open @ 9:00.
Check out Hillstomp.

Silver Jews @ The Urban Lounge
Last night we ventured down to the valley for the Silver Jews show at the Urban Lounge in Salt Lake. Monotonix kicked off the evening with a high-octane terror of a performance.
