Sunday Sounds

If you dig on the likes of Otis Redding, Wilson Picket, The Black Keys, and James Brown you’ll find yourself kickin’ back to the grooves of Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears. Out of Austin, Lewis sounds like he’s straight out of the Stax Studio, playing a raucous mix of Memphis flavored horns, guitars, and gritty blues, all while dishing out a healthy dose of attitude. Check out Black Joe and his band the Honeybears over at Daytrotter where you can download a few tracks from his latest session. The band’s self titled debut is also available for sale here.

Last year at Sundance I had the good fortune of discovering San Francisco blues duo Leopold and His Fiction. Well since then Leopold has morphed into a trio and released their sophmore album Ain’t No Suprise available now on Native Fiction Records. My pressing is in the mail, and I can’t wait to drop the needle on it… at only $10 bucks it’s quite a steal. Head over to their MySpace page to pick up yours as well as view some videos from their latest Sundance showing courtesy of Park City Television.

Neko Case’s upcoming Middle Cyclone will be available in stores on March 3. Until then KEXP’s Song of the Day has a track off the new one, People Got a Lot of Nerve, to hold you over in the meantime.
