The Great Outdoors

This past weekend the 901 Woodside crew decided to get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather by hiking Utah’s second highest peak, Mt. Timpanogos. Although afternoon thunder showers kept us from reaching the 11,749 ft. summit, the scenery was quite spectacular. I’d highly recommend the hike up Timp, but I would suggest getting an early start and checking the forecast, as well as some comfortable shoes.

On a more dismal note, this past Friday we lost an American icon in Paul Newman. Newman, who was 83 years old, passed away from cancer.

The Donkeys & Grand Ole Party at Kilby Court

This past Sunday two of San Diego’s latest to emerge on the scene joined together to put on a bi-partisan show at Kilby Court in Salt Lake. Grand Ole party kicked off the evening with an eclectic blend of blues, funk, noise, and fuzz, belted out by lead vocalist and drummer Kristin Gundred. Gundred, who can howl with the best of them, pays homage to everyone from Bessie Smith to Grace Slick. The band’s debut record Humanimals is out now on DH Records.

Closing out the night from the other side of the aisle were The Donkeys. A slice of Gram Parson-esque California Country Rock, The Donkeys are a send back to the feel-good summer sounds of the 70’s. Their latest release Living On The Other Side is a pleasant listen, and is in stores now.

You can have a listen to both bands over at their respective MySpace’s, The Donkeys & Grand Ole Party.

And We’re Back

So if we had any readers here at The Old Town Rag, they might have noticed we haven’t been keeping up with our posts. Fortunately, we don’t, so no one missed out on anything witty we might of had to say. In the meantime, The Rag did get a bit of a makeover, which I think everyone will find quite becoming, and as always stay tuned, there is more soon to come… we promise.
